The Wisdom Trust

Our Mission Statement

The Wisdom Trust raises awareness about the important issues impacting the future of our planet – from poverty, to environmental and health issues.

We make donations to support the work of other charities, good causes and not-for-profit initiatives both in the UK and around the world, and work with others to promote friendship, goodwill and mutual understanding across all borders.

About Us.

Background

Founded in 2003, Wisdom4All was a not-for-profit initiative which set out with the goal of using the internet to help increase general awareness about the important issues affecting the future of our planet – especially poverty, healthcare, environment and world peace. Alongside this, we built a website to raise funds online in order to support charities and good causes in the UK and elsewhere.

Full charity status was applied for a couple of years later and in November 2005, The Wisdom Trust was born.

Operating across the international community, we continue to engage with individuals of all age groups and backgrounds, as well as charitable organisations and private companies.  Through this growing network, we strive to spread the word even wider and support more and more organisations.

Such organisations now include schools, hospitals, youth groups, cultural projects, environment initiatives, sports clubs and other vital local community groups.  But this is still just the beginning and there is so much more we can do.

Fundraising

Our fundraising model is based on a commitment that we will never ask our members and other website users for donations.  We prefer instead to generate all our income from monetising the traffic on our website (at no cost or inconvenience to our members) and through corporate donations and grants.

Using this model we quickly reached £16,000 received by 2012 and have continued to make progress in all areas since then.  Up to 85% of our income is set aside for donations to the other charities and good causes we support and for our Wisdom Trust Grants to individuals.

We operate a minimalist approach to overheads. We are run entirely by volunteers and operate from offices kindly donated to us by our friends and supporters. Our policy is to spend no more than 5% of our total income on admin and running costs.  We have been fortunate to work with many fantastic people over the years, including our brilliant volunteers, who continue to assist us in delivering our ambitious programmes.

What We Do.

1.Wisdom & Learning

Our goal is to help create a global learning community where every country and every community can use The Wisdom Trust website to share collective wisdom and knowledge about themes that support positive change for individuals, groups and the environment.

Our knowledge resources include information not only targeted at poverty eradication and the importance of an environmentally focused society, but also providing education about how to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

Our resources also cover a broad range of topics such as humanities, sciences, sport, culture and entertainment amongst others.

a) Our online education programs will feature tools to enhance both numeracy and literacy, as well as activities to help create a wider awareness about poverty, environment and health issues.

b) We include quizzes and information about many other subjects such as literature, science, history, geography, sport, culture and entertainment.

c) Our online libraries provide a wide selection of eco-tips, health-tips and thrifty-tips.

d) We back up our online resources with a series of workshops, seminars and roadshows to offer everyone even more opportunities to meet, learn and collaborate with each other.

2. Friendship

We understand the transformative power that individuals can have in combating disadvantage when they have the support and friendship of those who share in a common goal.

Through ongoing collaboration with our expanding network of members we actively promote friendship, empathy and understanding as forces for change that further support our core mission.

3. Supporting Charities & Good Causes

We make regular donations from our funds to support causes of every kind, all over the world, including those which help protect our environment, improve global healthcare and eradicate poverty.

We also support many other causes and institutions such as:

1. Schools, Youth Groups, Colleges & Universities

2. Sports Clubs, Community & Keep Fit Groups

3. Choirs, Orchestras, Music & Religious Charities

4. Hospitals, Clinics, Hospices & Healthcare Causes
5. Farming, Food Banks & Animal Charities
6. Libraries, Advice Centres & Early Years Education
7. Marine Conservation & Humanitarian Causes

8. Environmental Causes & Disability Charities
9. Charities/ Foundations Run By Companies
10. Benevolent Organisations & Many Others.

Our members and other people who use our website vote online to help decide which organisations receive a donation from our quarterly Donations Fund.

Each cause receives a donation in direct ratio to the number of votes they received over that quarter. So each and every organisation which receives even just one vote during each quarterly donations window will be allocated something from our donations fund.

4. Supporting Individuals

We offer all members a range of Wisdom Trust Grants to help them make positive changes in their own lives.

These grants include:-

a) Eco Grants to assist with the costs of environmental initiatives which help reduce the member’s carbon footprint at home or in the office – things like solar panels, loft insulation, wind turbines and reduce/reuse/recycle schemes.

b) Education Grants to help with the extra costs of higher education such as course fees, books and even accommodation expenses. Every child and student of any age, anywhere in the world, can start building their own Wisdom Trust Education Grant Fund right now, which will benefit them later on when they move on to university or college.

c) Social Grants to help people (especially families on low income) pay for more expensive, healthier food options such as fresh fruit and vegetables – or even to help the elderly to heat their homes in Winter.

5. Supporting Communities

Our Wisdom Trust ‘Community WISH’ scheme ensures we can offer support to whole communities.  Members can volunteer as Wisdom Trust Ambassadors, forming local Wisdom Trust groups – our ‘experts on the ground’ – to reach out and help people and organisations in their local area – offering Wisdom, Inspiration, Support and Hope.

Wisdom Trust Ambassadors will help ensure we connect with all local charities, good causes, schools, hospitals and other not-for-profit initiatives, including corporate charity foundations, in their communities.

We can offer all these causes a new source of regular funding, publicity for their campaigns, activities and events via our website and social media platforms, as well as Wisdom Trust Grants for their supporters, staff and families – and of course for everyone else in the community too.

Our local Wisdom Trust Ambassador teams also help connect the vulnerable, the elderly, families and those that are unwell with all available resources and organisations which can improve their lives. Our Wisdom Trust Ambassadors will become specialists in their communities, so that wherever help is needed, they can make a real difference.

For example, we could help the elderly by making sure they are aware of local groups and local grants, meals on wheels, special transport schemes and help to heat their homes in Winter. We could help them buy food and meet people so they’re not lonely.

Wisdom Trust Ambassadors can also help mothers with young children so they can also get all the help they need by connecting them with local groups, nurseries, healthcare and charities which offer advice and assistance.

Wisdom Trust Ambassadors make a difference in local communities so everyone can make positive changes in their lives. We could even encourage local tradesmen or businesses to offer free help – maybe just a few hours a month – to assist others in the local community. This could include lawyers, accountants, decorators, plumbers, financial advisors, carpenters, electricians, gardeners and handymen.

We are working on plans to help companies set up hardship funds to benefit their employees who have been negatively impacted as a direct result of the Covid pandemic.  Our Wisdom Trust Ambassadors will be able to assist us in reaching out to any interested companies in their areas.

Finally, our Wisdom Trust Ambassadors can support, enhance, coordinate or establish local events such as Christmas Markets, Summer Fairs, Arts Festivals, Carnivals, Music Concerts, Sports Competitions, Countryside Rambles, Park Runs and Keep Fit Classes.
